What am I doing…..
It is way too late, and I really have nothing important to say, but I am fighting off sleep for some reason. Maybe its because I am amped up from watching the second season of The Office for the first time. Maybe its because Andrew and I cooked an awesome dinner tonight (see yummy pic on his page) and had a little bit of sugar in the form of ice cream for desert. Or…..maybe because the sooner I go to sleep the sooner I have to get up in the morning and back to work :( Regardless of the reason, here I am, on my newly discovered blog, and really enjoying having a project again. Looking forward to actually having something to say….tomorrow? Night All!
Welcome back …..to me!
It has definitely been a while since I have been on here, but I am going to make an effort to get back to updating this. In fact, I will most likely update the look as well! So much has happened since the last post, not the least of which Andrew proposed, I said yes and we got married! July 4th, 2009 was a magical day and I will never forget it. (I have plenty of pictures to remind me lest I do, haha!) We also moved to Atlanta, GA with my company relocation, so we are having a great time exploring, making new friends, and getting reaccquainted with some old ones. Life is good and we are living it! Talk to you soon :)
Response to Political Emails
So I got a couple responses to what I sent out, and while I won’t post what was said, the response’s were stating that abortion is really the only issue that matters. While it is a HUGE issue for me as well, I dont feel like either candidate is going to make big changes to the current policy. So that being said, I have to look at other issues that are important to me, and there, Obama overwhelmingly wins out.
Here was my response to those emails:
Well if you truly mean the right to life for all people, then you would include not only being against abortion, but also against capital punishment, war, and for better social issues like universal health care and better aide to foreign nations. Being pro-choice doesn’t mean being for abortion. The fact of the matter is, that McCain has been very wishy washy on his stance on abortion as well, as you can see at the following site. http://www.ontheissues.org/John_McCain.htm#Abortion
On that site it shows that he believes there should be exceptions for rape, incest, etc. He also supports stem cell and fetal tissue research.
In any case, I don’t believe that either side would be able to overturn Roe vs Wade in the next 4 years. McCain said himself ““I’d love to see a point where it is irrelevant and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary,” McCain told The Chronicle then. “But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe vs. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to (undergo) illegal and dangerous operations.”
I think it is going to take better education in teaching people the consequences that abortion brings to really bring an end to abortion. I know that it is a big issue, but it isn’t the ONLY issue that needs work in this world. While I respect your opinion to vote how you feel is right, please respect mine as well. I think it is inappropriate to send out emails with nonfactual statements that just harbor hate and slander. Obama is a Christian and I think its horrible that people are trying to associate him with terrorist activity.
Thanks for listening!
Political Emails
So today I got a politcal forward that was extremely biased towards McCain and completely slandered Obama. It made me so upset! Not that the person who forwarded the email had those opinions, because I respect everyone’s rights to the values they feel are important, but that it was o horribly incorrect! Why do people even start these emails that are so far from the truth and innappropriate. I wanted to respond immediately telling the person one by one the mistruths in the email. But I didnt want to keep the negativity going, so instead, I responded with Colin Powell’s eloquent speech on why he chose to endorse Obama. I think it sums up what
I feel as well, and says it in a respectful way.
Here was my response:
I surprisingly haven’t been getting a ton of politcal emails lately, which is just fine with me as I would usually delete them, but I recieved one today that really hit a nerve. So many of these emails foster hate or negativity, rather than promoting what is good about the candidates. This election is exciting and should be viewed as such, as there is so much potential for “change” (a word too overused but important none the less). I won’t be offended if you delete this now, nor will I be if you decide to forward this on, but I want to share to anyone who wants to listen.
Because I may not be as eloquent as Mr. Colin Powell, but I agree whole-heartedly with what he had to say just a few days ago, I think everyone should thoughtfully read his words, and put aside past views, issues, and anything else that is clouding our judgment towards the election this year. What is truly important right now is electing a leader who will LEAD us in the direction we need to go as a country. While neither candidate represents ALL of our viewpoints completely, I will be voting for Barack Obama because not only what he represents, but how he represents it. I am looking forward to a leader who wants to improve world relations, who values the importance of ALL Americans, and who will bring America back to being respected throughout the world. His choice of Joe Biden as his VP candidate shows that not only will he make thoughtful and intelligent decisions as President, but that he already has. And with the passion Senator Biden shows to helping those less fortunate throughout the world, I find it truly inspiring and in line with the values I was raised with. I know that we all have opinions and reasons why we will vote how we do on election day, but I hope that everyone truly is voting for who they feel is the right person for the right reasons. Not because that is how they always have, or because someone tells them how, but because they know that person will make the right decisions for ALL of America. Thanks for listening and I sincerely hope you read Powell’s words.
Colin Powell’s Endorsement Speech
P.P.P.S.
Tom Brokaw is Grrreattt. Script blocking is always funny. Awkward camera shots is soooo true, Katie Couric.
P.P.S.
Ok, so that last question did catch my attention. Way to pull it out in the last moment debate. Well played.
And Obama gave a nice answer to that, so kudos.
And McCain ….well……he blinks a lot.
And so it goes.
